What is streaming?

Streaming is a fantastic way to broadcast your radio shows to your listeners using your schools existing network or via an internet connection to the world-wide-web.

Streams can be accessed via web-browsers, mobile phone apps and other media players that have a network or internet connection, like windows media player.

On small scales, this form of broadcasting is usually free as most schools have suitable servers that can handle multiple clients/listeners.

For streaming outside of your local network, to the world-wide-web, we advise you consider one of our steaming packages below.

How does streaming work?

Both S-RADIO and SYNERGY radio studios have built-in software that provide a Unicast streaming facility. Unicast is where each listener (PC) receives their own audio stream.

The bandwidth required by your network or internet connection can be setup through the encoding software that takes the audio from the mixing desk and converts it to an MP3 stream, to Unicast via an IP address.

The bandwidth used is determined by the quality set for the encoding, multiplied by the number of listeners. See examples right:

Example One - High Quality

High Quality Stereo Audio (as used by Classic FM) = 128Kbits/sec

Therefore the bandwidth used would be:

128Kbits/sec X Number of listeners (e.g. 10) = 1.28Mb/sec

Example Two - Adequate Quality (Recommended)

Adequate Stereo Audio (recommended) = 96Kbits/sec

Therefore the bandwidth used would be:

96Kbits/sec X Number of listeners (e.g. 10) = .96Mb/sec
